Love, Watches & Wood Engravings

Have you ever taken the love languages test? If not you should. Whether you are in a romantic relationship or not, its proven to be really helpful in all my relationships, romantically, platonic and familial. Dave and I took it when we were just dating and found out that He feels more loved when he receives words of affirmation and I feel loved through quality time & gift giving.

Gifts are so important to me. And its not a materialistic thing. It’s more so the thoughtfulness. You can tell how well you know a person and how much thought went into a gift depending on what is given. And that right there means the world to me. You can spend thousands and it would mean nothing. But if you poured your heart over a handmade frame I’d love it forever (I still have this old beat up handmade frame one of my dearest JHS friends gave me, propped up on the shelf in my closet. #facts)

Growing up we didn’t have much money and I didn’t ask for much because I knew my mother couldn’t afford it. One Christmas my mother gave me my very first guitar. I was so thrilled I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest. I treasured that guitar so much because I know how much my mom sacrificed just to show me she believed in me.

Fast forward a few Christmases later, I still didn’t have much or wanted much. I always looked for great deals and only dreamt about brand named items. I had also just go into the youtube world and imagined what it would be like to walk into a closet full of clothes, shoes and jewelry. I was a growing fashionista. Lol. But I still didn’t just want things because they looked good nor did I just buy things willy nilly. Everything I bought or received was of great value to me and had a specific memory attached to it.

But on this special year I had been eyeing a watch for quite some time. I never had a brand name watch before. But I never expected it nor asked for it. On Christmas Day Dave surprised me with my first real watch. I was in such shock, I actually cried. I didn’t cry because I finally got this beautiful and expensive watch. I cried because someone who loved me, knew me well enough and sacrificed to give me a gift they knew I’d love.

Since then I’ve given David several watches and my uncle has given him one too. Watches have sorta become a very symbolic token of love & respect for us. We appreciate the beautiful workmanship that goes into a watch, and what the design says about the wearer. And every watch’s intricacy reminds us of the vast and beautiful design of our world. It reminds us of what we love, what we have and what we are grateful for.  Without watches, we would still know these truths. And I know it may seem trivial, but it’s still special to us.

Dave is a December baby. So, every year I try to get him special gifts since he only receives gifts one month a year, which to me, a gift-giver/gift receiving lover, is robbery! LOL. This year, I got him this really cool back-pack and with the help of JORD, I got him a new watch. But the watch is a little more special this time. I got to engrave it!

“I see you. I believe in you. And I love you.”

I decided to go with a Reece watch this year since it’s different from the round faced watches I normally get him. And it came in the most beautiful wooden case, which can also be engraved.

If you are interested in purchasing your own watch or gifting someone with an engraved JORD watch, here is a link for a $25 gift code:
