Perfection Kills!
I definitely struggle with being a perfectionist. It’s so bad sometimes I doubt the work I create or I can altogether stop myself from creating.
This photo is from a project that never got completed last year because of my struggle with perfection (@thisjessicatorres takes full control over my wardrobe btw😱😁😂). This year I have been learning more and more how to just be satisfied with what I deem as imperfections and being ok with things not coming out as I envision them. I realized the more I do this, the more I grow and the more I discover. Of course, this doesn’t mean I won’t strive for excellence instead, it means I will take more time fully enjoying the journey as I aim for excellence.
The current surprise project I have been working on (see my highlights if you have no idea what I am referring to) definitely challenges me in this area! On so many levels, you have no idea! God is at work in my little ol’ creative heart. I have cried while working on this series, battled so many thoughts of self-imposed unreasonable standards and media imposed definitions of beauty, while all the while trying to create something that counters that culture.
My hope is I do it justice and my vision speaks. I hope it will inspire you and move people. I hope it stirs up conversation and supports cultural change. I hope it changes the standards we set for beauty and welcomes body positivity.
